Double-Edged

Rate this book
From the author of PUSH and To Burn In Brutal Rapture comes an all-new tale of unexpected [extremely] forbidden romance!

What's an honest man to do?
Isn't that always the question we find ourselves wondering when we get swept up in something bad... Something overpowering and tangibly wrong, with the ability to corrupt our morals down to the core?

These boys, they're not mine, but they might as well be. I'm responsible for them, in a sense. And they couldn't be more different, identical in looks alone.

One I've noticed... The other has noticed me.
One needs me, the other needs him.

Sometimes a hero will fall on his own sword, but in my case... I've fallen on two.

** Double-edged is a full-length taboo MMM standalone novel that is intended for mature readers only. Some of the themes in this book could make readers uncomfortable. Please proceed with caution, and heed the author’s warnings.**

DNF at 54%

I borrowed this thinking I’d read something taboo and MMM. I was disturbed to discover that first and foremost, this books features a sexual relationship with minors so consent is not even on the table. It isn’t taboo, it’s statutory rape. The rave reviews romanticizing their dynamic are disturbing at best.

Secondly, the writing is not good. I skimmed, knowing that this would be a DNF due to the age of consent issue. Three POVs are juggled clumsily with time jumps, inconsistent narration, and narrative voices that either overcompensate or underdeliver on the characters they’re meant to portray. Typos and editing issues abound. Words are repeated many times per page or even paragraph. Italics are used for both inner thoughts and emphasis, resulting in confusion. Hyperbole and illogical metaphors are near constant. If you cut out the excessive exposition it would probably lose 200 pages.

Thirdly, the story is rife with harmful homophobic, biphobic, and misogynistic stereotypes along with at least one troubling line about the twins “not being like other rich white boys” because they’re incestuous. The few women in the story are written as shrill harpies or sluts. The mother, especially (while yeah not an affectionate or present parent) is a caricature, a money grubbing trophy wife popping Xanax and jetting off to the spa. The queer students at the twins’ school are grossly stereotypical and all act with blanket “gay” affectations and are regarded as predators in the plot. The gay predator stereotype is incredibly harmful and the author perpetuates it here. I could go on but frankly it’s upsetting.

Utterly confused as to how this book has five star reviews and the author has been firmly shelved as DNR for me.

TWs because the author doesn’t seem to think they’re needed-

Grooming of minors, statutory rape, homophobia, misogyny, incest, dubious consent between minors, non-consent, non-consensual filming of a sexual act, homophobic violence by a parent resulting in major injury, drug and alcohol use

I don't know if the blurb has been updated, but the twins were young teens when the incest started and were 17 when they started having sex with their step father. That isn't taboo, it's pedophilia

Inaccurate trigger warnings. The author put a huge rant at the start of the book saying it may not be for everyone blah blah blah. She pointed out that the taboo is incest. She neglected to mention that this book is full of graphic depictions of CHILDREN having sex. It starts when they are 15 I believe. They don’t turn 18 until around 75%. It later romanticizes statutory rape. She repeatedly mentions that it’s illegal in their state.
There was no reason for her to not mention this in the long trigger warning. It’s disturbing that all the reviews praising this book don’t mention that it is pedophilia. I understand that it’s taboo but to purposefully not mention that this is erotica about basically pedophilia is ridiculous.
Edit: for all the those who want to whine. I never said you can’t read it. If you want to read child p0rn then have at it. This is to help people make their choice

Double-Edged is one of My most anticipated books of the year—the twins win in my eyes. So far, My favorite book from the author. Not only is there a forbidden/taboo factor, which doesn't feel shocking, it feels normal and loved. The book is intense, with mental health being upfront and present. I felt so many emotions. The book touched my heart and soul. As always, I will be vague and not give any spoilers.

Cyrus and Colson have such a deep, beautiful connection. Their home life is less than stellar. Just because you come from money doesn't mean you have it all. Cyrus is a genius, while Colson is the bad boy. Both struggle with mental health issues. One more so than the other. I can't forget Tauren. Older and caring. He sees the twins for whom they are and not what their parents treat them as. He can be my hero any day. The Chemistry is off the charts with all three. As much as I love all three, Colson is my favorite. Always the broken bad boy.

Nyla K has a way with her writing that draws you in from the start and keeps your attention. Double-Edged is that. Plus, so much more, and I feel like she wrote with all her emotions. The worlds just flowed off the pages, and I felt every single one of them. I swear she writes some of the steamiest sex scenes. Have extra knickers on hand—ten out of five on the steam factor.

It's been several days since I have read this book; I am still here thinking of it and will talk to anyone about it. This book is a masterpiece. I loved every minute of reading it. I will add I am envious of those who experience this book for the first time. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Read those trigger warnings. This book is not for everyone, and that is okay.

DNF not because it was bad exactly and not because it “wasn’t for me” I have no issues with incest or taboo stepdad age gap stories. HOWEVER I cannot and will not support adults and underage teens together. I was prepared for a “large age gap” like the author note said but having minors in a sexual relationship with an adult is not okay. I’m kind of shocked by all the rave reviews that don’t even mention the romanticizing of statutory rape. It’s a little concerning to be honest.

WoW....this is an absolute epic masterpiece!!!!
I feel that I just went through one intense experience where my heart was violently removed, while slowly being stitched back together.

Double-Edged covers a variety of topics spanning from taboo/forbidden love, complex mental health issues, and traumatic abuse. This complicated and angsty love story includes twin brothers and their stepfather.

The story features two broken boys who battle their own inner demons while seeking comfort from one another given their heartbreakingly lonely home life where both are misunderstood and ignored. Their only solace is each other, which makes their relationship even more painful to navigate.

After many significant life changes and upheavals for both Colson and Cyrus, they find a beacon of hope in the form of their stepfather Tauren, who manages to meet all of their different needs, while making them both feel safe and loved, which has been missing so much in their lives.

Double-Edged was more than I expected and is my favorite taboo romance where all emotions were felt and made me so happy when all three finally saw their HEA realized.
All in all, I'm so grateful the nerd and his emo twin found their Dark Knight...

I feel as if I read a different book than the one others are fawning over.

The misogyny was intense in this one. Black mark right away for that. And the twin boys acted like children most of the time. Spoiler alert. They were children. It creeped me out that an adult was in love with them when they acted exactly like little kids. The only adult thing they did was have a lot of sex with their mother's husband. (Which, him marrying her never made sense. He was an idiot.)

I'm not even sure why I finished this book. I was curious how they'd get out of their predicament, so I skimmed a lot to finish.

I didn't believe any of the characters, I didn't connect with them.

Also, I know a lot of twins. I've never met any that could pull off a switch with people that know them. It seemed pretty rotten that anyone that professed any love for these kids couldn't even tell them apart.

I’d give it no stars but GR won’t let me. This is plain and simple pedophilia. The boys are UNDERAGE. That is all that needs to be said. The author could have still made it taboo by making the twins 18 but she chose to write a book where the person of authority of minors sleeps with them. This is grooming plain and simple. Anyone who says otherwise obviously has serious moral issues. Yes I read taboo, I’ve read MANY stepdad/stepson, Dad/son, Uncle/nephew books and love them but the massive difference is that all the younger MCs were all OVER 18.

"My twin stepsons lean down to my dick together. Their warm, wet mouths suck at the head of my cock, tongues lapping and feathering until I'm crumbling into a million pieces. Reaching down, I hold both of their heads to help them suck me."

i'm down on my bruised knees with tears streaming down my face for fucking finally been blessed by the taboo gods. i still think writing taboo stories take talent and yeah nyla k is brimming with that talent. i'm gonna say it now because sometimes these blurbs sound good and exciting but may turn out harmful for some: this is a taboo story about a full-grown man being in a sexual relationship with his underage, you read that right sister, twin stepsons. the sex with a minor setting made me highly uncomfortable even though the twins appear older than their actual age. to nyla k, you can't at least give them 2 years in their age? bc girl what the fuck?! 4 stars honestly i don't know why. i just know that my eyes were literally glued from start to finish. i was palpitating. my mind screams these red alarming sirens for me to drop the book but i can't put it down. i was hypnotized. i was magnetized. this book marked me. as of now, everytime i'll think about taboo all i can surely think about are those two books that i loved from nicky james and this one from nyla k. i was fucking shook. see you in hell!!

Forget incest - that’s not the issue , if that’s your thing , no issues.
But come on folks - they’re under age. That’s not on in any way.

I’m concerned about all the people here on the
comments glorifying the author. SHE’S A GROWN WOMAN, it's not “taboo", it's illegal and y’all honestly sick.
One thing is writing about siblings (i don't like it but meh, it's your “kinks and imagination"), but you're writing about CHILDREN, why tf are you fantasizing about CHILDREN??? THEY’RE 15.
Your fucking book is so misogynistic, you’re glorifying a pedophile, seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you?
If you wanted to make it “taboo” or whatever the fuck you’re calling your shitty work, at least you could have made them over 18.
I don’t care for large age gaps, idc if they’re his step sons, idc if they’re twins (as a I said, it’s not my cup of tea), BUT THEY’RE FIFTEEN FOR FUCKS SAKE. How can you feel sexual arousal?

I wish I could give this fucked up book 0 stars.

** Warnings**
Do not read my review expecting a summary of the story. Mine are just rambling sentences of a woman who loved Double Edged and can’t stop thinking about it. So it won’t make much sense. Sorry 😌
And more important...
𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐁𝐄 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐃𝐎𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐎 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄!!

So...
NYLA K IS A FREAKING GENIUS AND
I'M MADLY IN LOVE WITH HER MIND!!!
She is able to create sucha strong amazing women, BUT HER MEN !!!
They are something else 😍😍
They just take a place in your heart and refuse to leave!!

So i decided i'm gonna move in Nyla's mind with her men and i'm gonna enjoy watching them doing dirty things to each other 😏😌🥵😂

That being said, let's talk about Double Edged.

1.  It's mindblowing amazing.
I mean, i knew it would have been another masterpiece but it's even better than I thought 🤩🤩

2. It's damn emotional, with many heavy topics, and heartbreaking moments that made my eyes watery.

3. It's hot, and I mean REALLY HOOOTT 🥵🥵🥵
She knows how to make you sweat and squirm in your sit, while reading those scenes.
I can honestly say she is the best.

4. I love Tauren. He is so dominant and caring  *swooning* 😍
The "bad hero" everyone want in his life.

5. I love the twins, Cyrus and Colson.
Cyrus, the genius, the good twin.
Colson, the troublemaker, the bad twin.
One can’t live without the other.
The connection, the love between the two of them is one of the thing I loved the most.
But to be honest Colson is the one who owns
my heart. 🖤🖤🖤

6. The angst made me almost throw my kindle from the window, mostly because of Carla the b*tch 😤😤😤

7. As usually when it comes to relationships that involve more than two people, Nyla took her time to built each bond before the thouple's.
Nevertheless the dynamic between these three really works and you can sense the affection and the love they feel for each other.
It's heartwarming.

8. It's a journey about three beautiful souls that gonna lead them to understand that "𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒆 𝒇*𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍. 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒘𝒂𝒚.
𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒐 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒇*𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇𝒇". AMEN 😌

I think that's it.
If these aren't enough reasons for you to read Double Edged you're all fools 😜😂😂😂

I am so bummed!

There was so much potential for taboo, but the execution failed in making me take this serious. 🤷‍♀️

❗ To get to the core of this story, the author exploited far fetched situations.
❗ The twins' parents were underdeveloped.
❗Couldn't feel the connection between the stepdad and the twins happening.

⛔⛔ As for the polemic about the age of consent, depending on the reader's geographic location, this book will be illegal for some.

God for forbidden that, right?

So, friendly advice, stay away from it if this kind of fiction offends your morals.

I, for one, couldn't care less.

Loved the wicked age gap and the twin love. Shame the execution let me down.
I will round up my rate because it was hot as fuck and I really liked the relationship between the twins.

Well 𝐆𝐎𝐃𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍 this was magnificently well done. This book was 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥, 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞, 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐖𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐨. You know that feeling when you found that 𝐎𝐍𝐄 song that gets you in the feels and leaves a trail of goosebumps on your body? Well that's what this book did to me. This is a story that will definitely be living rent free in my 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥 for the foreseeable future.

Nyla K. Drew me into this book from that first page 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐀 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 and i was completely defenseless to fight against her lure.
The chemistry, the dynamic, the struggles, the love, acceptance and everything else about them was beyond beautiful and brilliantly well written. The characters 𝐖𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐲 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 and easily relatable and so damn real. Their emotions were so 𝐑𝐚𝐰 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 that i couldn't but feel them as well and that's the power of Nyla K's writing. Adding the sexiest 𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐔#𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 sexy scenes I've read in a while to the mix and you have the trifecta of a phenomenal read in your hands.

i've seen discourse about this on tiktok and people need to understand this is not okay lmaoo. i 100% think we should not judge/shame readers for reading dark/taboo romance but this is not it. it's incestual child abusive pedophelia. not to mention that i haven't seen anyone considering the fact that this author, a woman, is fetishizing mm relationships. and not even just that, she's doing it in a gross, perturbing way. not even just a cute romance. this is disgusting and wrong. i can't believe that there are other women out there supporting this book too. just because this book has "warnings" on it, does not make the situation okay.

*ARC received from author in exchange for my honest review. *

A true taboo masterpiece!! Double-edged is everything wicked, and delicious you shouldn't crave. Twins, who are as equally alike as they are different and the one man they shouldn't want but they crave.

"That it's okay if I'm wicked inside. Because you guys are, too."

Colson & Cyrus might be identical twins, but they are vastly different. Cyrus is the golden child, the good twin who is supposed to go far and make his parents proud. Colson is the rebel without a cause, the bad twin who will forever be a disappointment to his parents. The one thing that these two have in common besides their looks is the one thing that they both crave. The one thing that if it ever got out could ruin everything. In secret, they are much more than friends, they share something they shouldn't and while they know what they are doing is wrong they can't help it. The lingering gazes, wandering hands they share with one another in the dark of night.

Tauren has always been responsible. He always wanted to be the savior and while he never expected it to happen this way. Marrying their mother was the right thing to do because even if he didn't know it yet those boys needed him. One needed him in a way that made his mind and body come to life and the other needed him to help him feel what it is like to be cherished. It was never supposed to go this far but you can't go back. Now that Tauren knows what it is like to have these boys there is nothing that will come between them. He will do whatever he has to make sure they are his.

What happens in the dark of night never seems to stay there. What happens when secrets are revealed? When limits are tested? And what happens when the only thing you've ever craved is pulled from you just as quickly as you got it?

Ladies, gentleman, and all you nonbinary babes in between this story is going to shatter every single ceiling you thought Nyla had already shattered. Not only did this book have the same kind of raw emotions you have come to expect from Nyla, but she outdid herself on the steam. SERIOUSLY! A couple of times I had to stop and just breathe because I thought I would combust.

While I can't really pick a favorite of this book if I had to, I am going to go with Daddy Tauren all the way. That man just blew me away with not only the power he seemed to hold over those boys which was nothing short of intoxicating. It was the way he cared for them so tenderly even Colson because let's be real, that boy is hard to love.

I've probably gone on too long at this point, but I just loved this book so much! Nyla K done did this damn thing and I love all three of these boys for exactly who they are. Imperfections and all!!

First of all FUCK AMAZON and their censorship. Don’t like taboo? Don’t fucking read it. KTHNXBAI. If you’re interested in reading this (which you should definitely do) then go check it out on Eden Books!

NOW: this was another Nyla masterpiece. I’ll be honest, I didn’t get into Push (but I’m still planning on reading it one day!) but Alabaster Pen has my heart and fucked up soul. DE follows the story of Colson and Cyrus, two twin brothers who love their stepdaddy (and each other).

I kid. It’s much more than that. The way the characters each have their own “good” and “bad.” The way mental health is handled (check the TWs, folks). But mostly the way each man is able to find themselves as part of a whole and individually. It’s just beautiful. Coming in at about 600 pages, this book certainly doesn’t seem long. The storytelling is seamless and everything flowed so nicely.

I hate MMM’s where it seems like one man is always on the outs. I almost thought this was going to happen here but it didn’t. The way the relationships come together was very well done.

And for fellow AP lovers 👀 Peep a cameo near the end. I wonder if the twins and Daddy T will show up in AP too? 🤔

Just read this. That’s all.

Tbh this is my own fault, I should have actually read into this book without relying on a recommendation from TikTok but….

There’s a difference between taboo and literally ILLEGAL! UNDER AGED BOYS, I’m honestly shocked that this has such a high rating. LIKE… statutory rape?? Hello?

Not only are they under aged but the way they react to events that happen CLEARLY show that they don’t have the mental capacity for a relationship never mind a full blown shit storm that is this book.

Jesus Christ.. For real what is wrong with y’all? DNF

I want to preface this by saying that this book is taboo, and will not be for everyone. If taboo isn’t your thing, then scroll right along. This is an MMM romance between twins, Colson and Cyrus, and their stepdad, Tauren. There’s a significant age gap between the twins and Tauren.

By now, everyone probably knows how much I love Nyla and her books. She definitely knows how to write spice and she knows how to push those boundaries, and I Fucking love it. The spice in this book is top Fucking tier. There are so many scenes that I already wish I could go back and read for the first time.

I love how the relationships between these three are separate as much as they are together. The twins have an incredible bond, obviously, and would do anything for one another. Then Tauren comes into the picture and he offers each boy something different. Something they are missing and desperately need. They all let each other be their true selves and it’s as hot as it is beautiful.

Cyrus is incredibly smart, but suffers from severe anxiety. I related to him heavily with his anxiety. He is innocent in many ways, and struggles with his feelings toward Colson, and then toward Tauren.

Colson is the broken bad boy who just wants to he loved. He’s obviously my favorite, and my heart broke for him throughout the book. He struggles with mental health issues and is treated like an outsider by his parents.

Daddy Tauren is 🥵. He’s wealthy, but self-made. Him and his buddies run a really fucking cool start up company - really, it’s cool. He also has this part of himself that he keeps locked up, and the twins help him explore it and be truly himself.

I highly, highly recommend this book if you’re okay with the taboo aspects. It’s spicy as hell, it’s the right amount of emotional, and it’s just fucking amazing. Period.

CW/TW: This book depicts underage twin boys in their mid-teens first having an incestuous relationship, which then morphs into a sexual relationship with their grown-ass man who should know better step-father, who is committing statutory rape when they're still UNDERAGE.

If the above had been mentioned in the blurb or as a TW/CW in the beginning of this book, I might have skipped over adding it to my shelf. It was not. Therefore, heed this warning, and please check out the 1 star reviews before buying/reading this book.

➥ Don't talk to me. Don't fucking talk to me. It feels as though I have been overrun by a bullet train.

"Love is fucking love, no matter what."

"Double Edged" has been receiving so much hype since the day it got released. I have been seeing it everywhere. In a sense, it's reigning my Goodreads feed. MMM. Dark. Taboo. Age Gap. and all these glorious 5 star reviews. This book caught my attention like a Siren's song....I knew it'll destroy me. Yet I couldn't stop myself from reading it. I am do glad I did so because it was a wild rollercoaster ride. Very very addictive and awesome. I literally finished it within a course of a few hours.

The romance is damn amazing. And of course hot. The taboo part is really well done. What I didn't expect was it to be so emotional and jarring.... This book completely ruined me.

The most beautiful highlight of the story is Colson. Man! I LOVED this boy. You all know I have a thing for lost souls, broken hearts and good poeple who's acting as villains. Colson is just perfection. I'm in awe at how wonderful his character is. And he's sooo underrated. I know the author tried to provide equal attention to all three of our main characters. Yet, I couldn't help but somehow feel like Colson deserved more spotlight. I cried for this boy. I was so angry on his behalf. Really glad that he had not one but two poeple who understood his real worth.

The hype is real. Nyla K. truly nailed it. I was starving for a good forbidden romance. Now, I am satisfied....

"At this point, it’s Tauren and Colson and Cyrus against the world.
And fuck anyone who doesn’t accept us for exactly how awesome we are."

i didnt read this book just wanted to warn anyone who wanted to read this that it romanitcizes pedophilia. anyone who likes this book needs immediate help, if you are ok with pedophilia you are an awful person. i dont believe in hell but if its real the people praising this book are going there. also not being ok with statutory r@pe doesnt make someone a snowflake or sensitive, it makes them normal. if you think the people praising this book are snowflakes maybe take a step back and think about why someone may not be ok with pedophilia and rape. two very bad and illegal things.

Genre: MM Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Colson & Cyrus Becker has been inseparable since birth. But their unbreakable bond might be put on test when Tauren Vance entered their lives.

Going into this one, I was aware of a certain aspect of the book. But I wasn’t aware of the second dynamic, which was a bonus for me because it made it twice hotter. It absolutely satisfied my cravings on that matter.

He has to know that what we’ve done together is wrong. I know it, myself.
But what I’m not saying, what I’ll continue clutching tight to my chest for as long as I can hold it, is that I still want it, regardless.

The book was long, but I enjoyed the overall story, except towards the end, which too over the top. I liked all the characters, and they were easily distinguishable with their own personality, wants and fears. My favorite was Colson, whom I can’t help being drawn to.

Double-Edged is a story of self-worth and sexual reawakening. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a taboo Romance.

Phew, so where do I begin (long)? I know. You're either going to love this story or hate it. I mean, I get it. I see why some people hate this. The two teen boys are not quite adults. There is non-con too. Now when I read the reviews about the non-con, I assumed it was from the stepfather. It's not. It was committed by one of the brothers. Some also say this is not taboo because of those two issues. They are assuming that even if it's taboo, it's still legal or arousing. It's not. Taboo is literally forbidden by virtually all societies. Incest is taboo. Having sex with two boys who are not yet 18 is taboo. I get it though. When the boys got together or when they started sexually exploring with their stepfather, it was a cringe-worthy moment.

But I'm not in agreement that authors shouldn't write about these things. I don't believe in collaring authors. Just because they write about uncomfortable subjects like incest, misogyny, racism, bigotry, etc. doesn't mean this is what they believe in or agree with. They are telling a story. If we all never wrote misogyny, rape, darkness in people, etc... and treated characters as perfect semblances of society, books would be boring. Everyone is perfect, never doing wrong, etc. That's not reality. Life can get freakin' dark. There are tons of romances like that already. I personally love reading the darker side of people in stories. I like it when authors take a chance and go bold and daring. But that's just me. It's okay to not like this story too, but I personally loved it as I cringed. I loved all my conflicting emotions as I read their stories.

Some say she didn't write this for shock value. Of course, she did. She wrote this with the intention and knowledge that people were going to hate this. But all those concerns from readers were all addressed in the book. The moral dilemma all three characters continually faced. The repercussions of their actions were also addressed. It showed society's reaction to the three and how they were all ostracized. There were consequences, as it should have been.

I'm not sure about the misogyny. The mother was a horrible human being. Their father was a horrible human being. There was a girl in it towards the end who was wonderful and helped the two boys.

Tauren's character was well-developed. She wrote him intentionally bland at first. It was a reflection of how much darkness he held back from himself. It's when he embraced his darker side did he get really interesting.

Colson is the shining star in this book. He's the most damaged (I love reading about a damaged soul and seeing them climb from the depths to find happiness), yet he causes the most trouble. His story is heart-breaking and how much pain he had to endure, forcing him to be someone he wasn't. All the trouble he stirred brought about this strange relationship, forcing all three characters to reveal and accept who they were, but it wasn't without a lot of pain, loss, and struggle with their morality.

But the twins together... yes, it's incest, but those two were like yin and yang. Like they belonged together like that. Those two worked beautifully together.

I'm not a dom/sub fan. It's not my thing, but it worked well with the three based on how they were psychologically. And there's a lot of that throughout the book... this delving into the psyche.

In reality, this relationship probably wouldn't have flourished, but romances have HEAs. This book has it, and I wanted them to find their happiness despite how much people hate it. I honestly was unable to put this book down. There wasn't one point where I skimmed over the story.

Oh lord have mercy! This was a lot. But a lot of everything that makes this book work.

It’s a book that touches on so many subjects like not being loved by your parents, anxiety, sexuality, suicide attempt, coming of age, age-gab, mental health, being worthy, Dom-sub, forbidden love and loving who you love despite of societies expectations. Oh and twinning 👬

I’m not a dom/sub fan but it worked here because Colson needed to feel like someone cared about him and could take control of him when he was out of control.

This was a great book. Hat off to Nyla for mastering all these subjects while building characters you love and adore and can’t get enough of. It’s filled with humor and angst and so much 🥵💦🙈🤤

Colson, Cyrus and daddy Tauren make the hottest, sweetest and most dramatic threesome ever. They way they love each other is so passionate. I couldn’t put it down.

“I will never, ever regret you, baby.”

“I want to bend to him, to be everything he wants. I want to worship him, Cyrus and me together. We could be two halves of the perfect whole, for him”

“There I was, blissfully thinking it was Cyrus who’d done that for me, because it made sense that it would be him; the twin I’ve always felt a deeper connection to. But it wasn’t. It was the other one. So what the hell does that mean?”

“I’m not always happy,” he sighs. “And I know nobody is. Life isn’t rainbows and sunshine, I get that. But when I’m not happy, it’s kind of… all I can think about. It takes over my head. And sometimes my thoughts pile up and pile up until I’m so heavy I don’t even want to stay standing anymore.”

“My heart is bleeding for the kid. I have never wanted to reach inside my chest, pull out my heart and give it to someone as much as I do right here, right now”

“I know my brother wants what he gets from Tauren and me, together. I saw it on his face in the kitchen earlier. Tauren is a father figure and a friend to Cyrus. And I’m… what makes him whole. To him it probably seems like the perfect trifecta. Unfortunately for my brother, our reality is a harsh bitch. And the chance of us all making some weird relationship happen is fatter than a prize-winning pig.”

“I highly doubt whatever he does with my mother is this satisfying. Okay, ew… Bad train of thought. Let’s forget about that…”

“I’m sailing the seven seas with the ocean wind in my face right now. Or better yet, I’m finally with my Batman… My dark knight. On top of the Gotham precinct, beneath the Bat signal. Getting railed”

“I think I’ve died and gone to gay baby-Dom heaven.”

“I will never, ever regret you, baby.”
